Vines snake up the back. Trees tower over the small structure with a sagging roof and peeling paint.
Once a Mecca for scrap metal, Applebaum Iron and Metal building now slumps near the Marshall Regional Medical Center's employee parking lot, it's sign, with the trademark apple, rusting away.
"That was in my lifetime," recalls 58-year-old resident Bill Abney of the building owned by Jack Applebaum in the 100 block of East Argyle Street and 700 block of South Washington Street. "He had a scrap yard. Most of it was leased from Union Pacific Railroad."
