It's one more time for old Harrison County Courthouse restoration bids.
Public notice has been given of a 10 a.m., July 18, bid opening in the commissioners courtroom on the third floor of the new courthouse. Cost estimates are being sought on 25 elements involved in completion of the interior.
This represents the third and final phase of a lengthy, drawn-out project that has been hampered by rising costs and litigation. The initial time table had the building set to reopen for Wonderland of Lights 2005.
County Judge Wayne McWhorter said earlier bids were rejected because they totaled $5.8 million.
"We only have three point one million," McWhorter said, adding about $2.5 million remains in a grant from Texas Historical Commission, with the balance representing the county's match.
