Wiley College has begun a variety of summer programs for students from across the area and region. These programs are designed to assist students in the areas of mathematics and the sciences as well as provide experiential learning in settings other than the classroom. The programs include: the Wiley College Student Support Services Basic Skills Institute began June 4 and runs through June 30, 2006. The program is free and is designed first, to acquaint pre-freshman and pre-sophomore students with the campus and campus life; second, to sharpen the students' academic skills in English, mathematics, test taking, and study skills. This will help students during their freshman and sophomore years, to complete successfully the liberal arts general education requirements and ensure the requisite preparation for studies chosen in major field of study. While the focus of the Institute is on academics, Wiley College fosters the development of a balanced life that includes social, spiritual, cultural and recreational activities for the students who participate in the summer program. Activities for this summer include; attending a play at the Houston Ensemble Theatre in Houston, Texas, field trips to Magic Springs in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Medieval Times in Dallas, Texas (Dinner Theater) and other activities such as volleyball, table games, tournaments etc.
