And then there was one.
But it wasn't easy to claim first place in the Starr Family Home Croquet Tournament Saturday.
Only four of 20 teams reached the play-offs. Two made it to the semifinals and the one remaining was crowned the winner of the 13th annual Starr Family Mansion Croquet Tournament trophy.
"It was a tough game," said Leonard Wiley, describing how hard it was in the semi-finals, especially trying to maneuver the plastic ball around a sand pit area he referred to as the planet Mars.
But after 58 minutes in the semi-finals and 32 minutes to hit the first stake in the finals, he and his daughter defeated opponents, Mary Ware and Bryant Perkins.
"It's exciting," the father-daughter duo of Wiley and Deanna Wall said of their win.
The tournament, sponsored by Friends of the Starr Home, is a fund-raiser for the historical site started by president Marjorie Perkins 13 years ago.
