Henderson couple find a home for old cotton gin at Depot Museum
By MELISSA TRESNER, Cox East Texas

HENDERSON – In 1990, Mark and Sandi Barts purchased a piece of land in Rusk County.

Sitting on roughly two acres in Mount Enterprise was an authentic cotton gin used by farmers in the early 1900s.

"I've been buying antiques for a long time. When we bought this, we thought we could maybe sell antiques out of it. Over the years, priorities changed. Now all I want to do is fish and hunt," said Mark Barts, a TXU shift worker. About five years ago, the Barts contacted the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago hoping to donate the cotton gin to them.

"They were interested but they didn't want the expense of transporting it," Mark Barts said.
