The Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce spotlighted the city's outstanding businesses and personnel Wednesday afternoon at its annual Business and Industry Appreciation Luncheon.
Several awards were given away at the event, held at 11:30 a.m. in Marshall's Civic Center, 2501 E. End Blvd. S.
"It's really an opportunity for the community to sort of brag on themselves," said Connie Ware, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce.
The community does have some say in who deserves bragging rights through nominations submitted in several categories, including small and large business of the year, employee of the year, and boss of the year.
A panel sorted through the nominations to decide the winners.
Texas State Technical College Marshall may have been the star of the ceremony, with awards for Best Boss, (Dr. Gary Hendricks TSTC president) Best Employee runner-up (Bryan Maertens, TSTC instructor and faculty senate president) and Best Large Business Runner-up.
