Noted city and state historian Max Sims Lale died Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth. Lale, 90, had been in failing health.

Services will be this week at Trinity Episcopal Church. The date and time have not been set.

Marshall native Bill Moyers was a long-time Lale friend and when told of Lale's death said "No man I ever knew over my long years of kinship with Marshall ever embodied more faithfully the spirit of the town.

"He should have a statue on the square, looking out over the city he loved."
