CVND completes Caddo project
Staff Reports -- MNM

A year-long project of renovating boat roads on the Texas side of Caddo Lake was recently completed by the Cypress Valley Navigation District.

The work included opening many travel ways closed by silting or debris, as well as an upgrade of the channel markers on all the boat roads in Texas, according to Ken Shaw, chairman of the CVND.

"For the first time in many years, all the boat roads are open for travel," said Shaw. With use of local contractors on Caddo Lake, dredging has been completed in Bradley Canal and Starr Ditch.

Also, fallen trees, logs and other debris have been removed from Blind Slough, Clinton Ditch and Smith Slough. Though travel in some areas is still limited at low water levels, the main waterways, particularly Bradley Canal and Starr Ditch are clear for easy travel, he said.

Also, all the boat road markers have been replaced on approximately 40 miles of boat roads on the Texas side of Caddo Lake, Shaw said. A boat road improvement project was started in 1996 by the CVND.
