Why is it that sometimes you see the moon and it is up really high and bright and a few hours later is really low and red. What happens when the moon turns red?

I was never really good at science but as I remenber, when the moon is really high and bright. It is like it is burning its candle at those ends. That can only last for a few hours. When it becomes apparrent it can't keep it up, it gets depressed and feels real low. This leads to embarassment and it turns red.

I may not have it exactly right but I think I'm about right.
