Phil Latham is right. The only group worth hearing from Monday night - and whose needs should have been considered Tuesday morning - was the Karnack School Board.
While they were saying they needed jobs what they really wanted was industry located in the Karnack ISD that would increase the tax base. There were jobs there when Longhorn was open and the KISD didn't benefit. And it certainly wouldn't have benefitted from this pie-in-the-sky proposal just laid mercifully to rest.
But it does need help. I happen to know that when the county was divided into independent school districts, Karnack was cynically carved out to include the poorest black area in Harrison County with no consideration on the part of the "carvers" - all of whom were white - as to how the school district would survive or provide an adequate education for the children so ghettoized.
