An Analysis --
Analysis of the remarks of Carlton Swabb, president and chief executive officer for the Texas Economic Development Council

The Marshall News Messenger article states: "If, as a region, you have a mega-site like the Longhorn property, it is a major advantage for the entire region," Swabb said. As a former economic development consultant, Swabb said he personally visited the site about 10 years ago.

Swabb said the site meets basic criteria large businesses might be looking for, such as rail service, nearby interstate highway access, water, electric service and telecommunication access.

Mr Swabb said be visited the site about 10 years ago. W. Lee Guice, Ph.D., P.E. has worked on projects at the Longhorn site for a number of years.

This is what he recently said:

“I hate to see businessmen lose money. I hate to see tax money being spent foolishly. Any attempt to develop industry at this site will be fraught with disappointment and financial losses. There (to repeat others) is zero infrastructure. There is negligible transportation, electricity, water, gas, Internet access, sewer facilities, etc. There is major pollution to deal with; this is why a small portion of the land is still available. USFWS cannot take it.”
