Voting: Its Either/Or NOT both
As a reminder Texas Election Law Section 142.008/142.009 prohibits a person from voting in the primary of a one political party and also signing the petition of a person seeking to run as an Independent for the office in question.
The law also states that the signatures on a petition cannot be collected until after all primaries and run-offs for that office are complete. So if you sign a petition now, your signature wont count.
So remember if you are thinking of supporting an independent candidate that will be collecting signatures, then you might want to think twice about voting in the primaries.
As an example, if you plan to support independents, Carol Keeton Strayhorn, or Kinky Friedman, voting in the March primary election makes you ineligible to sign their petitions.
