Opinion: Judge McWhorter’s “Secret Ballot” Stinks – submitted by Ron Munden
Let’s assume for a minute that Judge McWhorter really wanted to take a poll that accurately reflected people’s opinion concerning the disposition of the remaining Longhorn land.

If that is the case, one can only rate his effort as a colossal failure. He has wasted the $10,000 he spent; the results are invalid; and the cards should not be counted and they should be destroyed immediately to protect the rights of those who thought they were submitting a “secret ballot.”

District Attorney Joe Black stated, “Judge Wayne McWhorter did not handle the matter properly.”

Black continued, “McWhorter intimated the flyer was sent on behalf of the commissioners court, but that is not the case.”

All three of the Commissioners that District Attorney Black contacted were unaware that Judge McWhorter was conducting a poll. Judge McWhorter’s “Secret Ballot” told people to mail the ballot to the County Elections Officer, Pam Block. Ms. Block told Black that she was unaware of the poll until people started calling and asking questions. She said Judge McWhorter never talked to her about it.
