Recording, broadcasting behind choice of site for Caddo public hearing
By SANDRA CASON, News Messenger

City hall may not be able to accommodate at one time all Harrison County residents who wish to voice opinions on a proposed industrial park at Caddo Lake, but none will be turned away, Judge Wayne McWhorter said.

The session is set for 7 p.m., Feb. 27, in city commission chambers at Alamo Boulevard and Travis Street.

"Everyone that wants to say something will be allowed to speak," he said. "We'll have either a constable or someone with the city fire department stationed at the doors to allow people to enter and speak.

"When they get through – say five or 10 of them – they can go ahead and exit. It was going to cost money to go to the civic center, and even if we did get the space for free, we would have to pay for recording" the hearing.

McWhorter said the site chosen also allows for live broadcast on cable television. "I want it to be televised and that's the only way we can do it."

However, Precinct 1 Commissioner Jerry Lomax said McWhorter "does not want that big a venue. I tried to lobby for the civic center," he added. "I told the judge, when we were holding the founding meetings for Greater Caddo Lake Association, we filled the civic center."

Lomax said he also told the judge of someone in town who could record the session and McWhorter promised to look into it.

"Well, he never said anything else about it. The next thing I knew, I showed up for the commissioners court meeting, and the judge said we were going to have it at city hall.
