At the same time rising gasoline prices has made in impractical for the Post office to continue to run its motorized delivery vehicles. So the Post Office has offered Lance and a group over-the-hill cyclists jobs. They will be delivering mail by bicycle.

This explains why all these racing bicycles have a basket, bell and kickstand.
