Texas has one of the largest variety of birds of any state in the country. Birding is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the United States and they are becoming a bigger portion of the eco-tourism industry each year. Dr. Jim Ingold of LSU Shreveport band birds at the Walker Farm 15 to 20 times a year. Birds at netted. Birds that have not been banded are banded; data is recorded for birded that already have bands. All of this data is loaded into a national database. The data collected is valuable and the bird banding experience is an enjoyable and informative outing.
