This Christmas our first grandchild came to visit us. This provoked me to think about the country that my generation will leave for her generation.
My parents are part of the Greatest Generation. I mean this literally. This generation made personal sacrifices for the good of the country. In time of war everyone sacrificed, not just the men and women in uniform.
They were a generation that put their country first. They took this country from a second rate power to a world power and finally the superpower. As they reached retirement age they handed my generation a country that was powerful and respected. They achieved this thru sacrifice, hard work, and integrity.
I am of the Me generation. A generation driven by greed, not love of country. We are the first generation that thought the word sacrifice applies to others; never to ourselves. Our actions have put the gift our parents gave us at risk.
There are indicators that show the country has been on a downward slope for the past 15 years. The actions of our generation during the past five years have placed us on a steep downhill ride that threatens everything our parents gave to us.
