Marshall's third annual "Light Up the New Year" celebration will take on a high tech aspect about midnight Saturday.

A laser light show will help Marshall area revelers ring in 2006 on the west lawn of The Marshall, according to Christina Anderson, who is coordinating activities centered at the former Hotel Marshall.

She said several restaurants and other downtown Marshall businesses have indicated they plan to stay open late New Year's Eve to widen the spectrum of local dining, entertainment and shopping options.

"There will be lots for people to do downtown this year," Ms. Anderson said.
