Proposed plans for a garden to be created in honor of Lady Bird Johnson, former first lady, Harrison County native and naturalist, were announced last week.
The public garden will include native plants, wildflowers, indigenous trees, stones, a water feature, and other elements that reflect the natural beauty, history, and community spirit of the East Texas region.
The garden will be a serene place, overlooking the Harrison County courthouse square in downtown Marshall.
Christina Anderson, who heads up planning for the garden, said it will be an affiliate of The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, founded by Ms. Johnson and actress Helen Hayes in 1982.
