This has been a record breaking year for taxable sales in Marshall.
City of Marshall officials and area retailers got some uplifting news with recent sales tax reports released by the Texas Comptroller's Office indicating the city's taxable sales are ending the year with a steep spike and a new record total.
The city's December sales tax revenues were up 14.7 percent from a year ago. Marshall's December sales tax receipts totaled $497,482, up by $63,800 over the $433,673 it got in December 2004.
Harrison County cities outside Marshall also experienced a good month in December, according to state figures.
Hallsville's sales tax revenue this month was $11,800, up by 105.48 percent from December 2004 when $5,755 was collected. On a year-to-date basis, Hallsville's receipts are up 42.5 percent at $140,172.
Waskom's sales tax receipts totaled $10,800, up from $8,400, or 27.26 percent from a year ago. Scottsville's sales tax revenues were $1,239, up 183 percent from the $437 it got a year ago.
Uncertain's sales tax revenues were $706 this month, up 22.35 percent from the $577 it collected in December 2004.
