Opinion: Howell Validates Cargills Comments submitted by Ron Munden

During an Economic Development meeting on Friday, Mr. Jerry Cargill said that MEDCO did not understand the importance of tourism. I think Mr. Howells comments in the Marshall News Messenger demonstrate this. To refresh your memory MNM said: Howell said Friday evening, however, he could not attend the forum because he, and MEDCO Executive Director Lou Ann Nisbett have been working long hours to prepare Harrison Countys proposal for the FutureGen (near-emissions free power plant) project. Proposals were due Dec. 7 at COG headquarters in Kilgore. On Dec. 15 the site selection committee will personally meet with the proposal spokesmen at the Center for Applied
Let me first say that I support the FutureGen Project. I would love to see it come to Harrison County but it is a very long shot. I would say the chances are under 5%. Tourism, on the other hand, is a sure thing. Why not give it a little attention.
