City officials defend code issue criticism
By JULIA ROBB, Special Projects Editor MNM

Former Marshall Image Advisory Commission Chairman Tom Allin has resigned leaving behind a list of criticisms for the way the city handles code violation issues.

Allin, who resigned from the commission this month due to personal circumstances, in his resignation letter cited criticisms concerning the city's inability to rid itself of burned, condemned and/or abandoned houses, fines not being levied against code violators and city officials not seeking money for surveillance cameras to document such problems.

City officials said considering the money available, they are doing about all they can. However, Allin, said it's time new ideas be put into practice.

"What we do not hear from the city administration," Allin wrote, "is 'That is an idea we haven't thought of, let's try it.'
