Colorful mosaic spurred by East Texas drought
By ELAINE DEROUEN, Staff Writer MNM

When the sap fails to rise, nourishing the leaves, extraordinary things happen to the trees around East Texas.

Fall colors begin to dot the countryside, in the forest, along the roadside and under bedroom windows, a forerunner of colder weather to come.

Folks begin having a strange craving for chili, stew, hot chocolate and a warm fire. And people are not the only ones whose systems are preparing for cold weather.

The gold, red, purple and orange colors outdoors are a sign the trees and brush are also getting ready for the months to come. The colors disappear all too quickly, leaving winter in their wake.

Take a look a photos taken this week at Caddo Lake then get in the car and drive down and take a look yourself.
