We were appalled to discover that the future of the lake, designated as a wildlife refuge and recreational area, is in jeopardy. It defies reason that such a resource could be destroyed by an ill-conceived plan to develop 2,200 acres into an industrial park.

The economic value of Caddo Lake to east Texas is substantial. It is an important recreational area for local residents, and a vacation destination for birders, sportsmen, boaters, fishermen, and photographers. These visitors spend money in the local community. They hire local guides; stay in motels; eat in restaurants; purchase equipment in hunting, fishing and boating supply shops; buy fuel at gasoline stations; and shop at grocery stores. All local businesses benefit from the money spent by visitors to Caddo Lake.
