It was the dollar signs that really seemed to catch the attention of Judson Middle School eighth graders when Susan Mazarakes and David Hailey showed them a video about manufacturing careers.

Manufacturing careers can mean an annual income of $30,000 to $60,000, according to the video, which drew exclamations of "Whoa," and "That's a lot of money," from some of the students.

Mazarakes, business retention and expansion director for the Longview Economic Development Corp., is working with local businesses to take the presentation about Longview manufacturing businesses and careers to local schools. Hailey, president of H.L. Hailey Enterprises in Longview, was helping her at Judson. Other local business representatives were set to help later in the day, and at other schools in the coming weeks.
