County's old courthouse a diamond still in the rough
By HILLARY S. MEEKS, News Messenge

While the inside of the historical Harrison County Courthouse clearly has a few million more dollars to go, Texas Historical Commissioner Shirley W. Caldwell assures county residents it will be worth every penny.

Ms. Caldwell joined other commissioners and staff from the THC Wednesday evening to tour the courthouse, which is currently in the last part of its second phase of renovation.

"I've been on the courthouse committee since its inception, I know the whole history of Harrison County and I'm delighted the county has taken the initiative to restore it and they'll never regret it," Ms. Caldwell said.

Those on the local restoration committee took advantage of the fact that the commission was meeting in Jefferson this week to invite them to Marshall as a "thank you" for all the THC has done throughout the renovation process.

Commissioner Frank Yturria said he believes the 104-year-old courthouse will be the "diamond" of Marshall upon the completion of it's restoration.
