Trinity teacher receives national acknowledgement
By ROBIN Y. RICHARDSON, News Messenger

While thumbing through pages of Scholastic's Instructor magazine for new craft ideas like she usually does, something on page 24 caught the attention of art teacher Jodi Beavers.

"I saw my name," she said, telling how shocked she was.

The September edition had announced her as runner-up for the "Get Crafty" educational art contest for her idea of a "box report."

"I was like the bird in the Cocoa Puffs commercial," said the Trinity Episcopal School teacher, describing her excitement when she read the news recently.

"It makes my calling to teach children validated. Somebody recognized me. I mean me," she said.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by the magazine and Elmer's glue, required art teachers to send in their best art project that encourages learning. Ms. Beavers, who also teaches classes at Marshall Visual Art Center, submitted her innovative project in April.
