On Saturday, October 22, motorcycle enthusiasts, participants, and sponsors will gather along the brick streets of Jefferson for a very worthy cause. The Boo Benefit Ride for Burn Survivors draws people from around the country interested in helping the Percy Johnson Foundation and Louisiana Burn Camp for Children.
The origination of the Boo Benefit began in October of 1998 in response to the brave and noble efforts of Charles Boo Chaler, also a burn survivor. Following a near fatal pipeline explosion in May, 1998, Boo and his wife Patsy donated a gift of $65,000 to the Percy Johnson Foundation and began a benefit to aid severely injured children and their families.
In April, 2002 the Chaler-Rods House was purchased by a grant from the foundation to house out-of-town families of burn patients who cannot afford hotels for extended stays.
In 1998 $6,000 was raised; FY 1999 $10,000; FY 2000 $14,000; FY 2001 $30,000; FY 2002 $35,000; FY 2003 $65,000; FY 2004 $75,000.
The all day event will include a Poker Run, Bike Show, Bike Games, and Live Music.
Thank you Boo, Patsy, friends, and sponsors for helping to make the lives of injured children and their families better.
