It was a fitting end for a festival named after an insect.

The last event of Marshall's FireAnt Festival Sunday afternoon was the the gurning, or ugly face-making contest.

And responding to her name being called as the winner, an astounded Lakeysa Stuart noted: "I did it as a joke."

The Stuart family of Liberty was paying a first visit to Marshall as a part of the festival's entertainment. "We are Richard Stuart and One Night Stand," Ms. Stuart said. "I put my husband in there as a joke, too."

And Richard Stuart took second place. Third in the senior division went to One-eyed Minnow.

In presenting Ms. Stuart with her plaque, which traditionally contains a mirror in which the ugliest people in town may view themselves, Suzanne Willis said in jest: "I can't believe such a beautiful voice came from such an ugly face."
