To Caddo Lake enthusiasts, the people of Marshall, Harrison County and all of Texas;

Our tourism industry is in danger!

Due to verified knowledge we want to inform you the transfer of the remaining Longhorn Army Ammunition plant land and water rights formerly destined for a National wildlife refuge are in jeopardy.  A group of persons have secretly worked to convince and change the minds of our U.S. Senators and our U.S. Representative that the public had no interest in the refuge.  We, the public citizen must change this immediately.

It is important for each person to write a one page memo to each of these senators and representative or call if you know someone.  If you know conservation group to contact that would help.   All bird groups should write individually and send signed petitions if possible.  A deluge is important.  Political parties are not important.  Caddo Lake and Tourism are not and should not be a political football.

Just an example letter; Write what you feel in your own words;

Dear

I personally request you to keep Caddo Lake Natural.    Any concentrated economic development or industry could cause damage beyond measure to Caddo, its forests, and flora and fauna plus the tourist industry.   To take more water from a dangerously low water level could cause devastation to the Bald Cypress trees, the fish, wildlife and all rare plants and forests.   I have just learned some party has requested that the remaining Longhorn land and water rights be changed over to a private group instead of to United States Fish and Wildlife which in turn will be the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge.  This private group intends to use the land and water for economic development.  This has been done secretly without any publicity in the local area or in the state of Texas.   Caddo is not only our treasure to be stewards of; it belongs to and is appreciated by the whole state of Texas.

These senators and representative are listening.

Marshall, TX. has other places to obtain its water

Economic development on Caddo could be devastating.

Tourism is a clean multi million dollar industry.

This move would adversely affect any tourist industry in Marshall and the surrounding area.  The Marshall Chamber of Commerce advertises Caddo Lake as one of its attractions.  It should. The new downtown development needs these tourists.

Economic development can be located almost anywhere.   There is no other Caddo lake.  It cannot be replaced anywhere anytime.

Please forward this message to all concerned.  Thank you and bless you,

Mary Jane and Jack Sanders, Sr.
