Location: Marshall, Teaxs
If you read the local paper, the location is given in the section that gives information about
activities in Marshall. If you do not take the MNM the picking happens on the sidewalk on the
north side of the square. You and all of your friends are welcome and invited to come listen or
join in the playing and singing. Hope to see you there.

Article: JEWISH SYNAGOGUE, MARSHALL, TEXAS
Location: Marshall, Texas
Imagine, the Jewish Synagogue was torn down to build the police and fire station complex, that is
now being abandoned to build new stations. The Pelz home on Grove street will soon be torn down to
build a parking lot.
Thank you Henry Bradbury for at least having postcard pictures of historic buildings in Marshall.
I know that the glass, steel, and brick buildings that have replaced so many historic structures
in Marshall will certainly, "someday" be considered historic.
Article: JEWISH SYNAGOGUE, MARSHALL, TEXAS
Location: Marshall
There is a cedar of Lebanon and an historical marker on the corner of Fulton and Burleson streets
where the Temple Moses Montefiore once stood. It was designed by C. G. Lancaster, the area's most
prominent architect and constructed at the turn of the 20th century. When the annex (where many
children in the last century took dancing lessons) was built a few years later, the congregation had
its one and only fund raiser, a "Jewish Fair," held in Newman Hall which featured a "Mr. and Miss
Marshall" for whom one could vote at a penny a vote. The newspaper wrote often of the coming event,
including a running talley of the penny votes. The day before the event the editor wrote the
following, "For years Christians have gone to the Jewish Community for contributions for the church
organ or carpet fund and they have always responded. So we say "Do unto the Jews giving-wise as they
have done unto the Gentiles."
As the number of Jews in Marshall dwindled and the congregation could no longer support the
temple, every effort was made to save it, all of which were in vain. However the valuable Tracker
Organ was purchased by a Presbyterian church in Fort Worth where it is in use to this day. The bemah
chairs, candelabra, eternal light and Ark are now in the Harrison County Historical Museum.

Article: FEEDBACK: BO ELLIS
Location: LaPorte, Texas
I take offense to the person that said that Bo Ellis does nothing for the City of Marshall. I
guess you really don't Bo and what he's done for Marshall. I moved away from there in 2006 so I
can't really speak from that point, but when I lived there, I know personally that Bo brought in
tons of money for Marshall with all his work and I'm sure that things haven't changed since. If
you only knew the hours that this wonderful man works on his own time, (not the City's)for the the
well being of a town that he loves and only wants to make better, you'd be ashamed of yourself. I
have a challenge for you, spend one week, or even one day with him and you'd soon know.
